Although in all the following posted pics I might know the back-story to a few of them which gave rise to the situation depicted, I think in the majority of cases it's better to not know in order to fully appreciate the illustration, and to let one's imagination fill in the blanks according to taste. Re-creating a Roman torture/execution scene......
